Game Concluded
On December 11, 2008, all voicesinthestaic.com pages went down, leaving players wondering what happened.
As of March 04, 2009, all voicesinthestatic.com pages redirected to http://www.silverladder.com/ ; under the "ARG" section of the page, a picture of static appears, accompanied by audio of the song "If 6 was 9" by Jimmy Hendrix.

In a Nutshell
Spirits from another dimension are reaching out through the static.
We are investigating Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) for messages from spirits in limbo. These entities are communicating through voicesinthestatic.com and via cryptic emails, whispered phone messages, and Craig's listings. So far, we have met Echo, Margaret, and Mona.
There are eleven rings of dimensions to traverse. Echo is on level 11, Margaret on 10, and Mona on 9. These levels are represented by crosses (+) on the side of the trailhead [1] page. Presumably, each spirit will have his/her own web page or pages on VITS. There is also a scared child at the inner circle, her symbol is an O. We are told that we will help free each one from a "spiritual outland".
Mona tasks us with a way to grant her freedom. Evil enters the picture by the name of Distortion. Distortion finds Mona and seems to have consumed her. By bringing attention to the memory of patients, like Mona, we were able to save her from Distortion and set her spirit free.
Apparently, empowered by the words of others, Distortion takes over the entry page [2], turning it to a dark place, where captive benevolent souls are silenced.
After nearly two weeks of silence, Echo sends us strange, unrecognizable messages and we hear from a new entity, scala.
Who will we meet next? Can we help these souls; this "family of injustice" before evil devours them?
Timeline
In brief: Several members of unFiction receive emails from a character named Echo, leading them to voicesinthestatic.com. Further communication with Echo leads to the discovery of several more web pages, each with a different image and sound clip. Analyzing messages in the sound clips and website source codes reveal clues to the continuing puzzle. We meet another character named Margaret, who gives us a "key" to a new page. Further clues indicate the equinox, and a character named Mona begins communication when the equinox occurs. A new page with the extension "equinox" also appears. Mona reveals to us that she lived at Byberry Mental Hospital and is angry that her former home and her remains have been built over. She wants us to create a " hex masterpiece" to "tell them they were wrong."
In brief: An evil force named Distortion captures Mona and blocks her communication. Echo warns that communicating with Distortion gives him power. Most people stop talking to Distortion, but Echo informs us that "one is still loyal." The sound clip on the equinox page changes to include interference from Distortion and garbled pleas from Mona. Eventually efforts to help Mona get through, Distortion is weakened, and Mona gains freedom. While we are waiting for another spirit to help, we learn more information about Echo's life and his role in the spirit world.

Philadelphia State Hospital at Byberry [4] (originally called Byberry Mental Hospital) was a psychiatric hospital located in Northeast Philadelphia. It's history includes horrific neglect and abuse towards patients. The buildings were abandoned for many years; recently demolished and new construction has gone up on the grounds.
